Unlike classical oxidants, whose reactivity is based on the direct filling of valence electrons, chlorine dioxide forms a stable molecular structure with an unpaired electron.
This free radical is not fixed in place but oscillates between the two oxygen atoms—a dynamic, resonant movement that gives the molecule a distinct physical characteristic.
This electron oscillation generates a defined spin frequency in the gigahertz range. As a result, chlorine dioxide becomes, at the molecular level, a structured radical with a quantum-physically describable intrinsic resonance.
